This is the week to end all weeks, in the land of never-should-we-ever foods — the days leading up to Christmas.

When you look at the table and see plates upon plates of festive delicacies — which are so beautiful you almost don’t want to disturb them, yet too scrumptious to leave be — it can be overwhelming. This is especially true if you are trying to maintain a healthy diet!

While there’s absolutely nothing wrong with indulging a bit now and then, the holiday season should not be considered a free-for-all, nor should it necessitate building an extra layer of “insulation” to stave off the cold.

So, how can you enjoy the holidays and still love your food? One way is to make sure to eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables alongside your comfort foods. Also, eating adequate amounts of protein will keep you feeling satisfied, thus preventing the sugar-craving hysteria that often accompanies hunger.

At Camille’s, we use the absolute freshest greens, ripest fruits, and leanest meats possible in all of our menu items. Whether it’s a richly balanced salad, a flatbread pizza, or a cold, refreshing fruit smoothie, you can rest assured that the food you eat inside these doors does have nutritional value.

Okay, okay. We admit — Camille’s also has delicious cookies and mouth-watering desserts. Perhaps a “one-a-day” policy isn’t appropriate for these selections, but every now and then, you just gotta treat yourself! The key is balance.

Everybody knows that Camille’s is the best place to go during these cold, winter months, when we turn to foods – like fresh baked chocolate chip cookies and creamy Tuscan tomato soup — for comfort.

But did you know that we can help ease the burden of planning your holiday parties? Well, surprise! We can.

Camille’s Cafe makes catering easy; sandwich and wrap trays, panini trays, fresh veggies, cookies, and much, much more!

Hey, we can even cater your breakfast or brunch. That’s right, we have breakfast favorites to make your party or event a hit.

And don’t even get us started on our goodies and signature cake trays! Oh, okay, go ahead and get us started! A tray full of signature cakes and pies for you and your guests… could there be any better gift for the holidays?!

You’d better call our catering hotline before we eat all of this stuff up.

Yum -- A Camille's Breakfast Wrap!

You can probably still hear your mother’s voice in your head telling you, “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day!” Call your mom and thank her for being so wise — she’s exactly right!

Breakfast is really two words: break and fast. Your first meal is breaking the overnight fast occupying the time between dinner last night and waking up today. Eating even a small amount of food does wonders for your energy level, ability to focus, and effectiveness at keeping those growls in your tummy quiet.

Not a breakfast person? Too busy for breakfast? Don’t like eggs? Sorry, folks; those are no longer valid excuses. Pop into Camille’s on your way to work, grab a fresh fruit smoothie, and feel those nutrients doing their thing!

Some locations open as early as 8:00 a.m. and feature a full breakfast menu. Want to know which ones? Find out here!

See you in the morning!

Enjoy It While It Lasts!

12It’s already November, and the hustle and bustle of the holiday season is right around the corner. Given the unseasonably nice weather we’ve been having, the idea of crowded malls, traffic, and Black Friday seems like a legend of holiday lore.

Although the weather has been wonderful, the honeymoon has to end sometime; winter will eventually be here in full force. That’s why it’s so important to enjoy these few precious moments of sunshine-and-mild-temperatures-induced bliss while they last!

With that in mind, the outdoor seating at many of our Camille’s Cafe locations is the perfect place to catch up with friends while enjoying the sun and light breeze. You could stop by for a breakfast wrap, or maybe a cinnamon roll or fresh fruit smoothie.

No matter what your favorite item on Camille’s menu is, it’s sure to taste even better when you can enjoy it outside!

Fresh, juicy, vine-ripe tomatoes. Is there anything better?

Actually, there is; Camille’s signature Creamy Tuscan Tomato soup. As the weather turns colder and summer transitions to fall, the search for comfort foods that are both healthy and satisfying switches into full-throttle.

In addition to providing comfort and warmth on a chilly autumn day, the Tuscan Tomato soup made specially at Camille’s has something even more important to offer – lycopene.

Found in many fruits, lycopene is a potent antioxident belonging to a group called “cartenoids,” which give orange, yellow, and red fruits and vegetables their colors.

Lycopene is most famous, however, for its cancer-fighting power. A recent Harvard study, which followed 48,000 men for six years, concluded that men were lowering their risk of prostate cancer by 45% – nearly half – just by eating ten or more servings of tomatoes per week.

Cooking tomatoes increases their lycopene content. In fact, Cornell University food scientists say that the longer you have them in heat, the more the lycopene increases.

Rich, creamy, and comforting? Check!
Nourishes your body and soul? Check!

It turns out that you really can have it both ways!

health and fitness girl 22How much protein have you eaten today? Twenty-five grams? Fifty? Whatever the amount was in the protein bar you grabbed on your way out the door this morning?

If you are like many Americans, thinking about getting enough protein evokes images of messy powders, raw egg-yolk drinks, and expensive supplements. For most of us, that’s enough to stimulate our gag reflexes.

Fortunately, there is a sensible, delicious alternative that makes it okay for you to “put some meat on your bones,” or in your belly, as the case may be.

Camille’s Sidewalk Cafe offers a colossal cornucopia of sandwiches, wraps, salads, pizzas, and more, most of which provide up to one half of all of the protein the average person needs in a day.

Here’s an added bonus: The fresh, healthy, and intensely flavorful selections at Camille’s will give you that warm, fuzzy feeling in your tummy without taking a huge chunk out of your wallet.

Eating enough protein is essential in developing and maintaining muscular size, strength, and health. Add in exercise, and you’ve got the perfect formula to reach and/or maintain a healthy weight!

Next time you need to grab a bite before you head out to “sculpt your guns,” stop by your nearest Camille’s Sidewalk Cafe, and be proud of yourself for eating sensibly.

panini

Eat, Relax and Enjoy is the motto at Camille’s Sidewalk Cafe, which is not far removed from the casual, easy go-lucky lifestyle of the Italian countryside. The history of the Italian panini is often linked to memories of summertime picnics, rich country wine and crusted Focaccia bread.

According to Italians, the panini sandwich, the original version of panini, would mostly be a striped down version of today’s sandwich with only a single filling, not grilled and most often prepared just before eating them.

Cured meats were the filling of choice; salami, prosciutto and mortadella to name a few. A rustic Focaccia would commonly be used as the bread.

Cheeses were a common filling as well. The local availability would determine which particular cheese was used. Summer favorites were panini with tomato and mozzarella or tomato and tuna.
All these account for the core of the Italian culinary panini.

At Camille’s, we fill our grilled Focaccia bread with fresh ingredients and serve it warm.

One of the favorite panini’s at Camille’s is the Napa Valley Chicken.

This Italian favorite is housed in Focaccia bread filled with grilled chicken breasts, Provolone cheese, sun-dried tomato pesto, mushrooms, red onions and balsamic glaze. Your choice of bread should always be balanced, complimenting the other flavors.

Camille’s Sidewalk Cafe is creating panini sandwiches with an artist’s eye for creativity and an Italian connoisseur’s palette.
